Wenshan-Neihu Line (Wenhu Line)
The first route of Taipei MRT to go into commercial service, the Muzha line (now part of the Wenhu line), began operation on March 28, 1996. Trains run on elevated tracks from Taipei Zoo Station in the Wenshan District, through Wanfang Community and then through tunnels in the Fuzhou Hill area to Heping East Road, and along Fuxing South & North Road to Zhongshan Junior High School Station. Along the 10.9-km route, there are 12 stations and one maintenance depot. Transfer to the Nangang line and Banqiao line can be made at Zhongxiao Fuxing Station.
The other part of the Wenhu line starts from the tail track north of Zhongshan Junior High School Station. It runs on elevated tracks along Fuxing North Road, turns right at Minzu East Road, and heads for Taipei Songshan Airport. It then goes underground on the southern side of the airport where Songshan Airport Station is located beneath the 1st and 2nd parking lots in front on the right of the Taipei Songshan Airport Terminal. The route continues north beneath the airport and the Keelung River, and reaches Beian Road in Dazhi where Dazhi Station is located. Then, it re-emerges as an elevated line running along Beian Road to Jiannan Rd. Station, follows Neihu Road, Wende Road, Chenggong Road, and Kangning Road, and ends on the southern edge of the Nangang Economic and Trade Park at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Station. From there, passengers can transfer to the Nangang eastern extension and travel directly all the way to Banqiao and Tucheng. The total length of this section is 14.8 km with 12 stations and one maintenance depot. The second section of the Wenhu line began commercial service on July 4, 2009, providing convenient public transportation to Neihu residents as well as passengers traveling to and from Taipei Songshan Airport.
The Tamsui line began commercial service on December 25, 1997. On the southbound journey, trains set out from Tamsui following the right-of-way of the old Tamsui-Taipei railroad on an at-grade or elevated level through Beitou and Shilin districts and after Yuanshan Station the line runs underground through Taipei Main Station to Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall Station. The 23.8-km route has 22 stations and Beitou maintenance depot. Most of the stations along the Tamsui line are built in a traditional Chinese architectural style. Passengers from Tamsui take only 37 minutes to reach Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall Station, where transfers to both the Nangang line and the Banqiao line can be made.
The Zhonghe line, which began operation on December 24, 1998, takes an underground route from Nanshijiao along Jingan Road, Zhonghe Road and Yonghe Road before passing beneath the Xindian River to Taipei City, and joins the Xindian line at Guting Station. The 5.4-km route has four stations and one depot.
Xindian Line and Xiaonanmen Line
The Xindian line, which began operation on November 11, 1999, joins the Tamsui line at Chiang Kai-Shek Memoriall Station and runs south along Gongyuan Road, Roosevelt Road, and Beixin Road to Xindian. The 11.2-km route includes 10 underground stations and one depot. The Executive Yuan later approved a construction plan for a new station, Xiaobitan Station, set up in the depot. The station was opened to the public on September 29, 2004.
The Taipei MRT network also includes one maintenance line, known as the Xiaonanmen line, which runs from Ximen Station to Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall Station. This line enables trains serving the Nangang and Banqiao lines to reach Beitou maintenance depot. The line is 1.6 km long and has one station. It began providing shuttle services between Ximen Station and Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall Station on August 31, 2000.
The Nangang line runs underground from Kunyang Station on the east side of Taipei, passing Taipei City Hall Station and Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall Station, and going along Zhongxiao Road and Zhonghua Road to Ximen Station. The 11.1-km route has 11 stations and one depot. Part of the Nangang line, from Taipei City Hall Station to Ximen Station connecting to the Banqiao line, began operation on December 24, 1999, while the section between Taipei City Hall Station and Kunyang Station began operation a year later on December 30, 2000.
Banqiao Line & Tucheng Line
The Banqiao line follows an underground route along Zhonghua Road to Heping West Road, goes beneath the Xindian River, and continues along Wenhua Road to Fuzhong Station. The section of the Banqiao line currently in operation opened in three stages: the section from Ximen Station to Longshan Temple Station began operation on December 24, 1999; the section from Longshan Temple Station to Xinpu Station on August 31, 2000; and the section from Xinpu Station to Fuzhong Station on May 31, 2006.
The Tucheng line takes an underground route along Nanya South Road and Zhongyan Road and ends at Yongning Station. The section of the Tucheng line currently in operation began commercial service on May 31, 2006.
Nangang Eastern Extension (Kunyang Station to Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Station)
This extension runs underground from the current terminus of the Nangang line at Kunyang Station to the intersection of Zhongxiao East Road Section 7 and Nangang Road Section 3, and ends at Nanxi Park where the underground station "Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center" provides a transfer point to the Wenhu line. The extension's total length is 2.5 km with two underground stations. The first part of the extension from Kunyang Station to Nangang Station totaling 1.5 km was opened for commercial service on December 25, 2008. The rest of the extension from Nangang Station to Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Station began commercial service on February 27, 2011.
The Luzhou line is 6.4 km long and consists of five underground stations and one maintenance depot. The line starts from the Xinzhuang line's turnout section located at the intersection of Sanhe Road and Huanhe North Road just northwest of Taipei Bridge. It then follows Sanhe Road in Sanchong District and goes along Zhongshan 1st Road and Sanmin Road in Luzhou. Then it makes a U-turn along the Shuinan Drainage Channel in front of Huanhe Road. After crossing the Shuinan Drainage Channel near the Luzhou Pumping Station, the line ends at Luzhou Depot. The entire line was built underground in New Taipei City. The Luzhou line began commercial service on November 3, 2010.
The full Xinzhuang line is 19.7 km in length with 16 underground stations and one maintenance depot, of which 7.3 km is located in Taipei City and the remaining 12.4 km in New Taipei City. It starts at Guting Station on the Zhonghe line and runs beneath Hangzhou South Road, Xinyi Road, Xinsheng South Road, Songjiang Road, Minquan East and West Road, then passes beneath the Tamsui River north of Taipei Bridge to enter Sanchong District. It continues along Chongxin Road and Jieyun Road, then crosses the Erchong Flood Channel and runs back to Chongxin Road in Sanchong before continuing to Xinzhuang District along Zhongzheng Road and ends at Huilong Station near the Losheng Sanatorium. The entire line, apart from the maintenance depot, runs underground. The Xinzhuang line was opened for commercial service phase by phase: the section from Daqiaotou Station to Zhongxiao Xinsheng Station, the section from Daqiaotou Station to Fu Jen University Station, and the section from Zhongxiao Xinsheng Station to Guting Station via Dongmen Station began commercial service on November 3, 2010, January 5, 2012, and September 30, 2012 respectively. The remaining section (from Fu Jen University Station to Huilong Station in New Taipei City) began commercial service on June 29, 2013.
The Xinyi line, an extension of the initial network's Tamsui line, runs underground from the Xindian line's Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall Station along Xinyi Road to the Xinyi Planning District, spanning 6.4 km with seven underground stations (Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall Station included). Trains also run from Xiangshan Station to Tamsui via NTU Hospital Station and Taipei Main Station. Transfers can be made to the Xindian line at Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall Station, to the Xinzhuang line at Dongmen Station, and to the Wenhu line at Daan Station. The entire line is built underground and began commercial service on November 24, 2013.
The Songshan line runs north from the Nangang line's Ximen Station along Zhonghua Road to Tacheng Street before heading northeast to Tianshui Road then turning east onto Nanjing West and East roads to Bade Road near Taiwan Railways Songshan Station in the east. The 8.5-kilometer-long line encompasses eight underground stations (Ximen Station included). Transfer to the Xindian line is available via the Xiaonanmen line, and transfer to the Nangang and Banqiao lines, Tamsui line, Xinzhuang line, and Wenhu line can be made at Ximen, Zhongshan, Songjiang Nanjing, and Nanjing Fuxing stations, respectively. The entire line began service on November 15, 2014.
Tucheng Extension to Dingpu
The Tucheng extension runs underground from the terminus at Yongning Station along Zhongyang Road sections 3 and 4, and ends at the high-tech industrial park in Dingpu. The extension has a total length of 2 km with one underground station, and commercial service began on July 6, 2015.
Taoyuan Airport MRT Line
The Taoyuan Airport MRT line starts from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport
Terminal 2, passes Terminal 1 in the east, runs alongside Dayuan District and
Luzhu District in Taoyuan City, Linkou District in New Taipei City, Guishan
District in Taoyuan City, and Taishan, Xinzhuang, and Sanchong districts in New
Taipei City, then enters Taipei Main Station in Taipei City.
